SEE THE LIGHT  :   GATEHOUSE MEDIA  ART REVIEW; August 2012
EDITOR’S NOTES: See the light  By Scott C. Smith

Robert Weinstein paints people and places as we’d like them to be, as we’d like to see them – explosively rich colors, wonderfully expressionist depictions of urban life packed with personality. That personality emerges vividly in some of his paintings yet appears deliberately subtle in others, exposing us to just that which Bob chooses to depict.

We’re drawn into his city scenes, nightlife as we wish it to be, full of energy and activity, yet perfectly personal. We want to be there. His background in film is evident in his paintings, so full of energy. Each painting pulses life caught in that single frame of motion against setting.

With a background based in New York and Canada, and now living in Southeastern Massachusetts, Bob has created art exhibited around the country and hanging on collectors’ walls around the world.

Scott C. Smith is GateHouse Media’s senior managing editor

CAPE COD ART  MAGAZINE ARTIST'S PROFILE excerpt

" His complex compositions of subjects like city life, nudes, or umbrellas are infused with a kinetic energy; the scenes seem ready to spring into motion. His Crowded Corner, for example, teases the viewer into looking twice to make sure it really is not moving.

His Three Nudes is striking for its fluidity........ Traffic radiates the frustrating, chaotic atmosphere of New York City gridlock  with cars bumper to bumper and even seemingly stacked on top of one another.

GEARY GALLERY ART REVIEW "Art & Antiques"

ART & ANTIQUES (Connecticut reviews)  excerpts

" The landscapes, always painted from life, reflect the effect of natural light and rain and wind on flowers and fields and convey that immediacy to the viewer.

His bright and spot-lit cityscapes communicate a joyful, often witty portrayal  of his subjects whose energy can only be captured through expressionism.
